CARTERVILLE, Mo. —
John F. Carey, age 66, of Carterville, Mo., passed away Friday, June 28, 2013, at his residence surround by friends and family.
John was born Dec. 3, 1946, to Jack and Rena Jackson Carey in Grove, Okla.
John was employed by Eagle-Picher for 42 years, retiring in 2010. He attended Forest Park Baptist Church, Carthage, Mo.
He married Margie Gray in Joplin, Mo. She survives.
He is also survived by one daughter, Marla Reed and husband, David, Carterville; one stepson, Casey Scroggins, Joplin; two stepdaughters, Shelley Scroggins and Staci Bond, both of Carterville; five grandchildren, Cody Jones, Chelsea Jones, Dylan Scroggins, Kaylea Liska and Shane Gallimore; one great-grandchild, Mya Grace; two brothers, Gale Carey and wife, Christa, Joplin, and Mark Carey and wife, Michelle, Alba, Mo.; and one sister, Linda Erwin and husband, Rick, Nixa, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Armina Stout; two brothers, Jack and Frank Carey; and one stepson, Scott Scroggins.
"I left this world after a three year and three month fight against this cancer I got. I feel very blessed to have survived this long, with my family and friends. I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to all the doctors and nurses at the Freeman Cancer Center. The nurses are fantastic, they are all my favorites."

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary Chapel, with Steve Mertens, minister officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Webb City, Mo. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 2, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the mortuary.
