JOPLIN, Mo. —
Mrs. Imogene Wooldridge, 91, of Joplin, Mo., departed this life on Thursday morning, April 4, 2013, at the Spring River Christian Village in Joplin, after a recent decline in health.
Imogene entered this life on Feb. 23, 1922, in Pasche, Texas, born to the union of the late Joel Franklin and Katy Francis (Conn) Stephens. She was raised in Pasche and was a 1940 graduate of Melvin High School.
On Feb. 8, 1942, in the state of Arizona, she was united in marriage to Aldon A. Wooldridge and to this union a son and daughter were born. For several years they resided in Farmers Branch, Texas, where Imogene worked for 25 years in customer service for Target. In 1994, she and Aldon moved to Coweta, Okla., and later to Joplin in 2003. For many years she and Aldon bred and raised race horses and both loved to spend time at the track. She enjoyed her grandchildren, teaching Sunday School and baking in her kitchen. She was a member of the Forest Park Baptist Church in Joplin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years, Aldon A. Wooldridge on May 16, 2004; a grandson, Christopher Meador; and a sister, Jo Dell Heath.
Imogene is survived by her son, Jerry Wooldridge and wife, Brenda, of Joplin; a daughter, Beverly Day and husband, Mike, of Broken Arrow, Okla.; four grandchildren, Casey Peterson and husband, David, Matthew Wooldridge, Koren Michelle Torrealba and Brenton Day; six great-grandchildren, Cassandra Denise Meador, Carla Paige Meador, Elliott Ashton Cook, Sullivan Reese Wooldridge, Isabella Torrealba and Christopher James Meador; a sister, Jewell Wooldridge, of Dallas, Texas; a sister-in-law, Wanda Tucker, of Dallas; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Wooldridge are at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, at the Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary Chapel in Joplin, with Rev. Larry Six officiating. Burial will follow in the Osborne Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Brent Day, Mike Day, Joe Tucker, David Peterson and Gene Charles Wooldridge. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. in the mortuary chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are being directed to the American Diabetes Association and contributions may be left at the mortuary.
