Lois C. Mulrain

SARCOXIE, Mo. — Lois Carson "Sue" Mulrain, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 4, 2013, after being diagnosed with cancer in December.

She was born May 18, 1915, in Golden City, Mo. She was the daughter of Thomas and Ida Melcher Carson, of Golden City. She attended a one room country school for her first five years of schooling walking a mile and a half each way from the family farm. She entered the Golden City School at sixth grade and graduated from High School in 1932. She attended the Kansas City Business College and after graduation, she enrolled in the Central Business College also in Kansas City experiencing several fields of business.

In 1940, she joined her two sisters in New York City, where she joined the American Cyanamine Company in the RCA Building as a private secretary to the top executive. She joined as they were inventing synthetic rubber. She was a member of the Dutch Reformed Church, of Flushing, N. Y.

She met and married Andrew W. Mulrain, Commissioner of Sanitation, of New York City. She was active in civic and charitable organizations particularly St. Johns University, the Light House for the Blind and the Botanical Garden Society. She was acclaimed an excellent effective public speaker.

In 1950 she and husband Andrew were graced with a beautiful baby girl whom they named Mary Ann Mulrain. Mary Ann was a bright, cute and very obedient child. As she grew and went on to several colleges and earned her PHD in English Literature at Tulsa University. She also became a professor there. A bright flame went out when she passed away in 1985.

In 1974 the Mulrain family moved to Jasper County in Sarcoxie, Mo., where Lois lived until her death here in her home that she loved so much. Her husband preceded her in death in 1975, a short year after moving to Sarcoxie. Also John Carson, Bernice Carson Hunnicutt and Bill Carson, her siblings preceded her in death.

She is survived by her loving sister, Rosamond "Bunny" Hall; her step-son, Andrew Mulrain; and his children and grandchildren and the children and grandchildren, of John Carson and a good friend.

Funeral service will be in Sarcoxie, Mo., at Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home on Monday, April 8, at 10 a.m. with visitation at 9 a.m. The burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, south of Sylvania, Mo. After the services friends and family are invited to meet at Cookies in Golden City, Mo., for a celebration of life.

She was a grand lady and will be sorely missed by many.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. and/or John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Ark.
