GALENA, Kan. —
Betty L. Simpson, age 82, passed away Monday morning, Oct. 21, 2013, at Quaker Hill Nursing Skilled Nursing Center, Lowell, Kan., following an illness.
Betty was born April 25, 1931, at Galena. Her parents were Orvil and Edna (Cruse) Hobson. She had lived at Galena for 18 years, moving from Baxter Springs, Kan., where she had lived for 47 years.
She worked as a seamstress at King Louie, Baxter Springs, for 44 years. She later worked with the Meals on Wheels program at Galena, for 12 years until her retirement in 2010. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, Baxter Springs. Her greatest interests were sewing and caring for her pets.
She was married to Jesse F. Simpson on Oct. 9, 1951 in Bentonville, Ark. He preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; three children, Marilyn Sue, William Orville and Jessie DeWayne; two sisters, Anna (Hobson) Edwards and Lora (Hobson) Lamb; and one brother, Samuel Hobson.
She is survived by close friends, Tommy and Di Noe, Galena; and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, until the funeral hour. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena. Pastor Jim Bowles will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena.
