JOPLIN, Mo. —
Darrell William Masoner passed on March 22, 2013, after a lengthy illness.
He was born In Monett, Mo., to William and Lois Masoner. He later moved to Joplin, Mo., where he graduated from Joplin Senior High School in 1967. He attended the University of Arkansas for a year before enlisting in the United States Navy. Upon the end of his tour of duty, he returned to Joplin to assist his father in the running of his construction company. Darrell later attended Wichita State University and Pittsburg State University, earning a bachelor of science from WSU in 1980 and a master of science from PSU in 1986. He was also a 1987 graduate of the FBI National Academy.
He was employed by PSU, where he served as Director of University Police and Parking for 27 years. He retired in 2004 due to health issues.
Darrell was a member of many Masonic organizations and many Police organizations.
Darrell married Pamela Marshall in March 1978 and she survives at the home.
Darrell is also survived by his children, Melissa Hurt (Gale), Michelle Masoner (Tom) and William Masoner (Catherine); grandchildren, Jordan Reece, Hailee Masoner, Robert Masoner, Levi Kendrick, Ezra Hurt, Ezekiel Hurt, Ellis Hurt. Clarene Hurt and Liam Masoner; three great-grandchildren; his mother, Lois Masoner; two sisters, Sue Peterson (Jim) and Janene Robinson (King).
He was preceded in death by his father, William Masoner; and one grandson, CJ Reece.
