JOPLIN, Mo. —
Gladys G. Strauss, 104, of Joplin, died at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Spring River Christian Village in Joplin.
Gladys was born June 24, 1908, in Chicago, Ill., to A. David and Sara Leah (Berman) Goldberg. She has been a resident of Joplin since 1936. She volunteered as a switchboard operator for the YWCA in her early years. She was employed in the lingerie department of Newman's Department Store for several years.
She married Emanuel J. (Manny) Strauss on June 11, 1938, in Joplin. He preceded her on July 21, 1983.
She is survived by two nephews, Alan Goldberg and Michael Goldberg, both of Laurel, Md.; and a sister in law, Jane Goldberg, of San Mateo, Calif. She was preceded in death by a brother, Admiral H.J. Goldberg; and one sister Irene Rothstein.
Gladys was a member of the United Hebrew Congregation.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, March 25, at the Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary Chapel in Joplin. Rabbi Michael Harvey will officiate. Interment will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Webb City, Mo.
Honoring her life by serving as pallbearers will be Jim Fleischaker, Jay Rosenburg, Paul Teverow, Alan Whitman, Martin Milgrim and Harold Berger.
