Carl Edward Gaut, 74, Coffeyville, Kan., formerly of Diamond, Mo., passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at his home.

Carl Edward Gaut was born Oct. 12, 1938, in Jennings, Okla., the son Marvin and Mabel (Yoder) Gaut. He and his family later moved to LaFontaine, Kan., where he attended school before graduating from Stafford High School, Stafford, Kan.

Carl married Doris Craig in 1956, at Clayton, N.M., and they later divorced. He married Etta Lou (Eaton) Myatt on Jan. 14, 1978, in Denver, Colo.

During his life he was employed as an ice cream truck driver, a filling station attendant in Liberal, Kan., a truck driver for Bond Bread and Rainbow Bread, a bus driver for Continental Trailways and Jefferson Lines  and was a grain truck driver for Ernie Kimbrough. For the last 29 years, he and his wife, Etta Lou, operated C&E Concessions and have been self-employed working with such businesses as Doolittle Amusements, Dillard's Amusements, Cornelson Amusements, Rogers Amusements, Laswell Auctions, Circle L. Auctions and worked for many fairs, festivals and rodeos. Carl also played American Legion baseball and had the privilege of catching an exhibition game featuring Mickey Mantle. Carl and Etta Lou owned a small bar at Elk City, Kan., for a few years. Gardening and baseball were great joys in his life, but he loved seeing and being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren the most.

Survivors include his wife, Etta Lou, Coffeyville; three daughters, Leona Faye (Rocky) Mason, Hugoton, Kan., Connie Gaut, Pueblo, Colo., and Cheryl Myatt, Coffeyville; two sons, Dwayne Gaut, McClave, Colo., and Norvil (Pam) Myatt, Eaton, Colo.; three sisters-in-law, Mary Gaut, Elk City, Laurel Gaut, Joplin, Mo., and Marge Gaut, Wofford, Texas; eight grandchildren, Kurtis and Amanda Mason, Joe and Kelly Strand, Nicole Gaut, Josh Gaut, Courtney, Brett and Wade Myatt, Chance and Nedra Myatt; two great-grandchildren, Lane Strand and Evelyn Myatt; and several nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Evelyn Gaut; and three brothers, Lawrence, Marvin Jr. and Lon Gaut.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at Knell Mortuary, Carthage, Mo. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, in the Knell Mortuary Chapel. Ministers Jeff Owens and Ernie Wright will officiate. Inurnment will be in Simla Cemetery, Simla, Colo., at a later date.
