JOPLIN, MO —  

Gary Lee Metcalf, age 58, of Joplin, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at his home.

Gary was born on Dec. 14, 1953, in Springfield, Mo., and was a lifetime resident of Joplin. Gary was a former student at Parkwood High School. On Oct. 31, 1972, Gary served in the United States Air Force and was veteran of the Viet Nam War. He worked as a truck owner/operator for 25 years. Gary enjoyed fishing and horses.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Roy (Buck) Metcalf Jr. and his mother, Lora Madeline (Pookie) Metcalf.

Survivors include his son, Roy Jason Metcalf and wife, Olivia, Winfield, Ala.; three grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Ryan and Justin, all of Winfield; and two brothers, Jerry Wayne Metcalf, Lynn, Ala., and Larry Gene Metcalf and wife, Melanie, Joplin.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Springfield. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
