JOPLIN, Mo. —
Sandra Kay "Sandy" Spencer, 73, of Joplin, Mo. passed away Saturday Nov. 10, 2012, following a lengthy illness.
She was born Mar. 6, 1939, in Webb City, Mo., to Floyd and Rose Lee (Zimmerman) Spencer.
Sandra retired from the United States Navy in 1978, after serving over 20 years. During her time in the Navy she was a photographer and reached the rank of Chief warrant Officer III. After her Naval career she graduated from MSSC and became a tax instructor and reviewed tax preparations for accuracy for Jackson Hewitt. Sandy was a huge Webb City Cardinal Football fan.
She is survived by, one brother, Kenneth Spencer, Webb City, Mo.; and her long time friend and Navy colleague, Virginia Ciborowski, Joplin, Mo.; She is also survived by two nephews, Ricky McFarland and Larry McFarland; one niece, Vicki Lett; and a brother in law, Emmett McFarland.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, June McFarland.
Funeral mass will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Webb City, Mo., with Reverend Rahab Isidor officiating. Burial will follow at the Carterville, Mo. Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family request contributions to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
