Jo Kilbane

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. — Jo Kilbane, age 86, former long-time resident of Joplin, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2013, in Brentwood, Tenn., after a long struggle with Alzheimer Disease.

Jo was born at home in Cerro Gordo, Ill., on Feb. 6, 1927, in the same bed in which her mother was born. She attended high school in Peoria, Ill., and married Bernard Rosenak in 1945. They moved to Joplin in 1952. She received her LPN Certification and License from the Missouri State Board of Nursing in 1971.

She was active in the United Hebrew Congregation and Sisterhood, Oak Hill Hospital, the Carver Nursery, and many other local Joplin charities. A passionate antiques collector, walking into her historic Victorian home at 420 Byers Avenue seemed like entering a museum, with more artifacts than the imagination could comprehend.

Her home was always open, and there was always room at her table and a brisket in the freezer. She gave her children and grandchildren her infectious joy and sense of humor for the human condition, and encouraged and supported each of them to be whoever they wanted to be.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Doty Booher, of Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Calif.; sons, David (and Judith) Rosenak, of Ocean Gate, N.J., Greg (and Anne) Rosenak, of Peoria, Ill., Jeff Kilbane, of Los Angeles, Calif., Tim Kilbane, of Broken Arrow, Okla.; her daughters, Cheryl (and Warren) Alifeld, of Atlanta, Ga., Melinda (and Robert) Schoch, of Franklin, Tenn., Bobbi (and Neal) Pauline, of Berkeley, Calif. and Jan Schwartz, of Diego, Calif; her grandchildren, Gary Rosenak, Michael Jennings, Brad (and Helle) Rosenak, Jason (and Sara) Jennings, Sarah Schoch, Katie (and Derek) Peppers, Daniel Rosenak, Morrie Pauline, Malina Pauline, Molly Rosenak, Megan Rosenak, Melissa Rosenak, Alex Stevenson, and Alisha, Sarah, Rafel and Jerrod Kilbane; and her great grandchildren, Haley and Hanna Jennings, Julie Rosenak, and Wyatt Peppers.

The family will receive visitors Friday, June 14, at 1 p.m. at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. Mrs. Kilbane will be laid to rest next to her late husband, Dr. I. E. Kilbane in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family will celebrate their mother with an Oneg, following 7:30 services on Friday night at United Hebrew Congregation.

The family has asked that contributions be made in her name to either the United Hebrew Congregation, 702 S. Sergeant Ave, Joplin, Mo. 64801, or to the Alzheimer's Foundation at www.alzfdn.org.

Online condolences may be sent to the family through our website at www.thornhilldillon.com.

Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, Mo.
