Cherry Ruth Furry

WEBB CITY, Mo. — Cherry Ruth Furry, age 88, of Webb City, Mo., passed away Friday, April 12, 2013, at Freeman Health Systems after a recent decline in health.

She was born Nov. 6, 1924, in Webb City, and was the daughter of the late Frank Lewellyn Sr. and Lily Ruth Lewellyn.

Cherry was a 1943 Webb City High School Graduate where she was a member of the Drum and Bugle Corp. She formerly worked as a cashier at the Webb City High School and as an employee of Day's Supermarket, Reynolds Hardware, S&H Kress and Ramsey's Dry Goods. Cherry was a member of the Carterville United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker.

On June 27, 1947, she married the love of her life, John Furry, in Boonville, Mo., and shared 65 years of marriage together. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include daughters, Kathy Perkins and husband, Dick, of Joplin, Jonnie Sue Scofield and husband, Howard, of Carthage, Amy Brown, of Webb City, and Leslie Arft and husband, Ron, of Webb City; six grandchildren, Holly McGrath, Mike Perkins, Alex Scofield, Frank Brown, Lily Brown and Clay Arft; as well as 10 great-grandchildren. Cherry was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Pam Herd; brothers, Frank and Trueman Lewellyn; a son, Michael Jay Furry; and a grandson, Blaine Jacob (B.J.) Scofield.

Cherry, affectionately known as "Granny", was a very kind, loving and generous woman, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved cooking her famous cheeseburgers for her grandchildren and their friends. Every holiday was celebrated with her delicious homemade cut-out sugar cookies. She also enjoyed camping at Roaring River State Park, going to the lake, and family beach vacations at Gulf Shores, Ala.

The family will be available through this weekend at their home in Webb City.  

A time of visitation will be at Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City, on Monday between 1 and 2 p.m. prior to the service at 2 p.m. The Rev. Eric Younger will officiate. Burial will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Perkins, Frank Brown, Alex Scofield, Clay Arft, Lily Brown and Dan Sweeten.  

Arrangements are entrusted to Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City.
