Betty Alene (Hutchens) Blodgett

NIXA, Mo. — Betty A. Blodgett, 88, of Nixa, Mo., went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, April 16, 2013, of natural causes.

She was born April 16, 1925, in Pioneer, Mo., to George Leslie and Magnolia Irene (Stewart) Hutchens.

She was wed to Bobby Gene Blodgett in 1942. They had five children together, Donna Marie Lally, Scott Hutchens, David Gene, Michael Alan and Randall Lynn. Betty and her family resided in Russell, Kan., from 1952 until 1994. During their later years in Russell and first years in Nixa, they both enjoyed traveling in their truck with camper to visit relatives, children and grandchildren along with enjoying the scenic areas of the country.

Betty was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Nixa. Her favorite occupation was various forms of needlework that included tatting, crocheting and hand-sewn quilts. All of her children, their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren looked forward to receiving their own hand-sewn quilt. She was also living her faith day by day with quiet inspiration. She was an avid Lady Bears fan in addition to watching the Kansas City Chiefs, St. Louis Cardinals and Springfield Cardinals.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, George Jr.; her two sisters, Gertrude Hendrich and Beverly Alonzo; her daughter and granddaughter, Melanie Blodgett.

She is survived by her sister, Ruth Latshaw, of Republic, Mo., Scott (Debbie) Blodgett, of Nixa, David (Donna) Blodgett, of Lathrop, Mo., Mike Blodgett, of Republic, Mo., and Randy (Lorraine) Blodgett, of Blackhawk, Colo. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home South in Springfield, Mo., on Friday, April 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Mount Olive Cemetery in Pioneer, Mo., on Saturday, April 20, at 11 a.m. officiated by Pastor George Bishop, of Calvary Baptist Church.
