JOPLIN, Mo. —
Janet Audrain Anderson, age 96, of Joplin, Mo., passed away at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at the Sarcoxie Nursing Center.
Janet was born Oct. 2, 1916, in Fairland, Okla. She had lived in the Joplin area most of her life.
Janet was a graduate of N.E. State University in Tahlequah, Okla., and received her Master's degree from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kan. She was a second and third grade teacher for the Joplin R-8 School District for over 30 years with most of her career at Washington Elementary School. For over 20 years she was a volunteer and past president of the Freeman Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the Cherokee Indian Nation Tribe of Oklahoma. She was also a member of the Byers Avenue United Methodist Church, a life member of the Fairland Lodge No. 194, Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa teacher's sorority and a member of the Fairland Garden Club.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore O. Anderson; and a son, John Anderson.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry Anderson and wife, Gail, Grand Prairie, Texas, Jim Anderson and wife, Lenora, Port Huron, Mich., and Joe Anderson and wife, Diane, Plano, Texas; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Fairland Cemetery with Rev. Max Raney officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
Memorial contributions are requested to the Joplin Humane Society in care of the mortuary.
