Darlene Hoggard

CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — Darlene Hoggard, age 79, of Carl Junction, Mo., passed from this life on Thursday, April 17, 2014, with her family by her side.

Darlene was born Feb. 23, 1935, in Picher, Okla., to the union of George and Aleene (Meek) Brown. Darlene graduated from Baxter Springs Kansas High School in the Class of 1953, with Academic Honors. She was active in FHA and Glee Club. She served as her Class Secretary and Class Treasurer. She was honored by the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution as the Outstanding Homemaker of the Year at Baxter Springs High School.

Darlene married Jimmie Don Rice in May of 1953, at the First Assembly of God church in Baxter Springs, Kan. She was a homemaker until her children were grown. She was an active member of the First Assembly for over 30 years where she was involved in many different teaching, hospitality and music ministries. She was accomplished pianist, organist and vocalist. She served as the church organist for many years.

After her children were grown she worked outside the home as an office secretary at the First Assembly of God church and the Hartley Insurance Agency of Baxter Springs. She worked as a clerk in the Olathe School District for many years until her retirement in 2001. She moved to Carl Junction, upon retirement to assist with the care of her mother and be closer to family.

Darlene married George Wayne Hoggard on April 14, 2001, in Carl Junction, where they lived and worked in church ministries together as members of Faith Assembly of God in Joplin, Mo.

Darlene is remembered as a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. She is remembered as a faithful, loving and devoted wife and mother. She is remembered as an outstanding hostess and cook for any family occasion.

Darlene is preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, George Wayne Hoggard; one brother, George Thomas Brown and wife, Beth, of Ocala, Fla.; one sister, Elaine Pollard, of Carl Junction; two children, Jimmie Duane Rice, of Carl Junction and Darla June Snook and husband, Gary, of Claremore, Okla.; four grandchildren, Heather Andris, Jonathan Rice, Tiffani Rice and Gerrett Snook; three great-grandchildren; four step-children, Gary Hoggard, Terry Hoggard, Kathy Mucci and Sharon Swanson; nine step-grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 21, at Derfelts Baxter Chapel. Pastor Larry Griffin will officiate. Burial will follow in the G.A.R. Cemetery, Miami, Okla. Family will receive friends on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Pallbearers for the service are; Jonathan Rice, Gerrett Snook, Andy Andris, Adam Swanson, Aaron Swanson, and Gary Snook.

In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Faith Assembly of God building fund or American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
