JOPLIN, Mo. —
Wallace Floyd Payne, age 88, of Joplin, Mo., passed away at his home after a recent illness on Monday, April 21, 2014.
Wallace was born Jan. 5, 1926, to the late Floyd E. Payne and Helen Miller Payne in De Smet, S.D. He attended Texas A&M where he received his Bachelor's degree in engineering. Wallace was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II. He was a Professional Engineer having worked for Eagle Picher Industries and Allgeier Martin and Associates before later becoming an independent consultant. Wallace was a member of the American Legion Post 13 of Joplin and St. Peter The Apostle Catholic Church of Joplin.
Wallace married Gladys Hernandez-Guzman Payne on April 30, 1954 in Barcelona, Venezuela. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors include three sons, Jorge Payne and wife, Susan, of East Lyme, Conn., Greg Payne and wife, Tammy, of Carthage, and Paul Payne, of St. Louis; daughter, Patricia Moore and husband, Rick, of Joplin; daughter-in-law, Ann Payne, of Joplin; nine grandchildren, Christina and husband, Cabot, Jonathan, Andrea, Katie, Nicole, Gabriela, Riley, Laken and Seagan; two great-grandchildren, Henry and Elliot; and brother, Robert J. Payne, of Webb City. He is preceded in death by one daughter, Annelena Payne.
Memorial Mass is planned for Friday at 4 p.m. at St. Peter's.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
