JOPLIN, Mo. —
Gary Scott Crook, age 48, passed away suddenly at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, Mo., Tuesday afternoon, April 22, 2014.
Gary was born April 12, 1966, in Concord, Calif. His parents were Nuel Boyd and Dorothy Berniece (McGrew) Crook. He had lived in Joplin for the past 12 years, moving from the State of Oregon.
He was working at the Joplin Sheltered Workshop. He attended the Joplin Family Worship Center and Masters Touch, Joplin. He loved music and enjoyed penguins.
Surviving is his father and stepmother, Boyd and Carleen Crook, Joplin; two brothers, Billy W. Crook (wife, Sonia) Nappa, Calif., and Benjamin B. Crook (wife, Cindy) Pittsburg, Calif.; four sisters, Shirley Renae Smith, Pittsburg, Loeva Deniece Banks, Joplin, Sherry J. Swenson (husband, Jesse), Concord, Calif., and Tami M. Mazutis (husband, Gary) Strang, Okla.; his aunt and uncle who were also his foster parents, Gil and (the late) Sue Baca, State of Oregon; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Crook; one brother, Chipper Baca; and two sisters, Angel and Genette.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at Joplin Family Worship Center, 5290 East 7th Street, Joplin. Pastor Dan Wermuth will officiate. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin.
Arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, Kan.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at Joplin Family Worship Center.
