JOPLIN, Mo. —
Leonard "Dean" Henness, age 92, of Joplin, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2013, at Freeman Hospital, following an illness.
Dean was born on Aug. 29, 1920, in Fontana, Kan., the son of the late Benjamin and Ona (Moore) Henness. He served in the United States Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He worked many years for the Union Pacific Railroad. He was a member of the Osawatomie Masonic Lodge. In his earlier years did woodworking and remodeling. He enjoyed fishing and golfing.
He married Eulah Jones on Aug. 16, 1965, in Lee's Summit, Mo. She survives.
Additional survivors include: stepson, Paul Edward Jones, Olathe, Kan.; stepdaughter, Patricia Ann Smith and husband, Robert, Pasadena, Calif.; one granddaughter and two great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his brother, Everett Henness; and his sister, Louise Scott.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Park Plaza Christian Church. B.A. Austin, Minister, will officiate. A graveside committal of ashes will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Osawatomie City Cemetery in Osawatomie, Kan.
In lieu of flowers, the family have requested contributions to be made to the Park Plaza Christian Church Building Fund in care of Mason-Woodard.
