JOPLIN, Mo. —
Betty Jean Henry, age 85, Joplin, passed away at 8:35 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Webb City Health and Rehabilitation Center after an illness.
Betty was born Nov. 7, 1927, in Waco, Mo., to the late William Lofton and Bessie Bennett Lofton and had lived in Joplin most of her life.
She received her nurse training at St. Johns Regional Medical Center and St. Luke City Hospital. She worked as an RN at Freeman Hospital for 42 years. She was the head nurse on the surgical floor for 25 years, retiring in 1984.
Betty married Roscoe E. Henry on Dec. 31, 1948, in Joplin. He survives at the home.
Additional survivors include a son, Brent A. Henry, Joplin; five grandchildren, Sarah, Justin, Brittany, Summer, Kenny; several great-grandchildren; and several other extended family members.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by a son, Greg T. Henry; and siblings, Elizabeth Hamilton, Virginia Hoyt, Thelma Spurlock, Dorothy Johnston and Bill Lofton.
Betty has been taken for cremation.
A memorial visitation is planned for Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.
