JOPLIN, MO —
Paul Akuna Sr. passed away Aug. 6, 2012, at age 85, in Joplin, Mo.
He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on April 1, 1927, son of Aki and Ung Tom Akuna.
He graduated from Farrington High School. At 22, he married his high school sweetheart, Dutch, who he remained devoted during their 63 years of marriage.
He served in the Army and Air Force during World War II, the Korean War and as a civil servant at the Sharpe Army Depot, the Mare Island Shipyard and in Vietnam.
Together with his family, he was stationed around the world in locations both domestic and overseas including Otis Air Force Base, Mass., West Palm Beach, Fla., Fairfield, Calif., and Okinawa, Japan. He had a B.S. in Occupational Education and was an avid bowler throughout his life. He enjoyed gardening, swimming and motorcycling.
Most of all, Paul was the beloved patriarch of the Akuna family, survived by his brother, Barney; beautiful wife, Dutch; children, Janis, Ginger, Paul Jr., Bruce, Terry and Chris; grandchildren, Jennifer, Kimberly, Kelyn, Rene, Amber, Melanie, Corina, Kalani, and Kiara; and great-grandchildren, Juliet and Elijah.
He will be greatly missed.
