NEOSHO, Mo. —
Donald J. McCleary, 84, Neosho, entered into rest on June 9, 2013, at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, Mo., following a short illness.
He was born July 15, 1928, in Newton County, Mo., to John Henry and Ida Mae (Martin) McCleary.
Don spent his entire life in Newton County except for a brief six years in Turlock, Calif. He was a diversified businessman having started Don's Shop in 1951 and over the years made it a top selling chainsaw and mower dealership. He earned many top awards and in the early 1960's became a Honda Motorcycle dealer. In the mid 1960's he opened a second dealership, Don and Jim's Shop in Joplin. During that same time period he established Neosho Fiberglass, which manufacturers motorcycle accessories. In 1970 he established Don's Trucking and then in 2011, established Starlite Trailers and Trikes, in Joplin. Don was part of the Newton County Sheriff's Posse, was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved to play pool. He was a member of The Church of Christ.
Don married Pearl Davison on June 22, 1947, in Granby, Mo. and she survives. He is also survived by his children, Ron McCleary and wife, Jan, of Independence, Mo., Kathy Lee and husband, Gregg, of Neosho; grandchildren, Erin, Heather, Sarah, Chris; great-grandchildren, Maverick, Marshall, Kenzi, Hagen. Don is preceded in death by his parents; and eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral Services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, June 13, at Clark Funeral Home Chapel Of Memories, Neosho, Mo., Don Deffenbaugh and Denny Kruse officiating. Interment will be in Granby Memorial Cemetery, Granby, Mo. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, at Clark Funeral Home Neosho, Mo.
