CARTHAGE, Mo. — Josephine Hicks, 91, Carthage, met the Lord, Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at her home.

Josephine Wilber was born July 4, 1921, in Carthage, the daughter of Frank and Nellie Wilber.  She attended Carthage Public Schools and was a 1939 graduate of Carthage Senior High School.

She married Melvin Ray Hicks on April 12, 1947, in Miami, Okla.; he preceded her in death on April 17, 1999. She and her husband owned and operated Hicks Plumbing in Carthage. She was a member of the Oak Street Tabernacle Church, Carthage.

Survivors include a daughter, Melva (Darrell) Peters, Mansfield, Texas; two sons, David Hicks, Carthage and Gary (Brenda) Hicks, Carthage; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin; a son, Roger Suskey; a daughter, Merabeth Carnes; four sisters; and one brother.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, in Park Cemetery, Carthage. Minister Jason Parnell will officiate.  

Memorial gifts are suggested to the Alzheimers Association in care of Knell Mortuary, 308 W. Chestnut, Carthage, MO, 64836.
