James "Jim" Dungan

BAXTER SPRINGS, KS —

James "Jim" Marion Dungan, 75, of Baxter Springs, Kan., passed away on Dec. 20, 2012, at Stanford University Hospital in Palo Alto, Calif.

He was born April 6, 1937, in Columbus, Kan., to George Z. and Bertha Mordica Dungan. He was raised in Treece, Kan., graduated from Columbus High School, earned a BS in math from Pittsburg State University, subsequently entering the Army Reserves. He worked for the Boeing Company in Seattle, Wash., and after five years was transferred to Boeing Aerospace Saturn V Booster Rocket Division in New Orleans, La. There he met and married Martha Muirhead in 1965. Desiring to be near his family, he bought a business in Springfield, Mo., and Baxter Springs. He joined Yellow Freight Corporation in 1976, and retired in Memphis, Tenn., in 1997. He returned to Baxter Springs and worked for JM Farms until 2001, while overseeing the Dungan/Kiser family farms until his death.

He was an amazing/loving/wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to so many people. He was very active in the First United Methodist Church of Baxter Springs, The Lion's Club and The Masons. He was married to Martha for 47 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and his dear aunt and uncle, Mary and O. Kenneth Tucker.

He is survived by his wife, Martha; his sister, Mary Lou Kiser; his sons, Alex (Tamara), of Henderson, Nev., and Kyle (Denna), of Marshalltown, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; and his five beautiful grandchildren, Tucker, Makenna, Hayden, Elliott and Jameson, who meant the world to him.

Memorial service to be held for Jim on Saturday, Jan. 5, at the First United Methodist Church, 1310 East Avenue, Baxter Springs, at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Organ Fund, First United Methodist Church.
