JOPLIN, Mo. —
Gwendolyn M. Kirk, age 84, Joplin, passed away at 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at the home of her daughter after a sudden illness.
Gwen was born Oct. 3, 1928, in Oklahoma to the late Carl Parsons and Jessie Rickman Parsons and had lived in Joplin since 1963, moving from Southeast Missouri.
She was a homemaker and had owned and operated the former Jims Package on South Main Street for several years. She loved to bowl and was a member of a bowling league many years ago.
Survivors include her children, Jayna Myers, Joplin, William Bill Kirk, Joplin, Marsha Slate, Anderson; grandchildren, Kathy Myers, Lisa Kirk, Jeremy Kirk, Kelley Derr; great grandchildren, Nikki Himes, Channing Amerson, Amara Amerson, Chandler Bridget, Ashley Bridget; and great great grandchild, Emmry Dame. Gwen was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Parsons; and a granddaughter, Kristen.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Kirk, Bill Kirk, David Amerson and Terry Goff.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
