JOPLIN, Mo. — Jerry F. Wood age 66, Joplin, Mo. passed away Sunday Jan. 6, 2013, following a lengthy illness.

He was born Sept. 15, 1946, in Hamburg, Iowa to Charles and Syliva  (Wooten) Bruce.

Jerry worked as an inspector for the USDA retiring in 2006. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and served on the USS Ranger and USS Kitty Hawk. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

He married Ellen Makings on Jan. 24, 1970, in Rockport, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his Step Father, Floyd Wood.

Jerry is survived by his wife; one son, Ryan Wood, of the home; one daughter, Cassidy Welton and husband, Brent, Joplin, Mo; and one granddaughter, Shelby, Joplin.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Arrangements under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary, Joplin, Mo.
