CARTHAGE, MO —
L. Drexel Harris, 76, Carthage, Mo., passed away Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, surrounded by his family.
Lauren Drexel Harris was born March 14, 1936, in Higbee, Mo., the son of the late Thomas Edgar Harris and Martha (Hayden) Harris. He attended Joplin Public Schools and was a 1954 graduate of Joplin Senior High School.
He married Natalie Frausto on May 11, 1981, in Tucumcari, N.M. She preceded him in death.
Drexel was an asphalt specialist and owned his own asphalt business.
Survivors include five daughters, Toni Putnam and husband, Kyle, of Carthage, Holly Davis and husband, Michael, of Bella Vista, Ark., Leticia Resendes, of Wildwood, N.J., Cindy Amaya, of Lubbock, Texas, and Kimberly Vesecky, of Columbia, Mo.; two sons, Albert Resendes and wife, Laura, of Joplin, Mo., and Kirk Harris, of Seneca, Mo.; one brother, Duane Harris, of Springfield, Mo.; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
Drexel will best be remembered by his friends and family for his love of sports and his retelling of memories. He was hardworking and a devout husband and father. His personality continued to impact others until the day he passed as it will continue to long after.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Pastor Kent Williams, Omega Hospice, Joplin, will officiate. Inurnment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Webb City, Mo., at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Knell Mortuary, Carthage.
