CARL JUNCTION, MO —
Rachel Emma McCann Harvey, 90, Carl Junction, Mo., passed away Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Mercy McCune-Brooks Hospital, Carthage, Mo., from COPD complicated by double pneumonia.
Rachel was born March 13, 1922, at Waynesville, Mo., to the late George B. McCann, and Christina Schapp McCann. She graduated from Webb City High School in 1941.
She married Paul E. Harvey and three children were born to this union. Mr. Harvey preceded her in death in August of 1958, leaving her a young widow with three children to support. She worked as a cook for the Carl Junction schools for six years and later worked for 27 years as an inspector for the Elder Shirt Factory.
She enjoyed being outdoors, especially when tending to her flower and vegetable gardens and she also enjoyed fishing. Rachel was accomplished at crocheting and quilting and spent many hours with these crafts.
She was a member of Carl Junction Baptist Church and was a long-time member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by six sisters and four brothers.
She is survived by her children, Paul Harvey and his wife, Glena, of Carthage, Charles Harvey, who resides on the family farm at Carl Junction, and Marjorie Lang and her husband, Alan, of Demott, Ind.; two sisters, Barbara Phillips and her husband, Harvey, of Chesterfield, Mo., and Johann Schleisman and her husband, Robert, of Silver Creek, Mo.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Rachel Emma Harvey was cremated under direction of Knell Mortuary, Carthage.
A time of remembrance will be Saturday, Jan. 19, at 1 p.m. in Knell Mortuary. No flowers, please.
