JOPLIN, MO —
Edna Naomi Thurman, 72, of Joplin, Mo., departed this life on Sunday morning, Jan. 20, 2013, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, after a year-long illness.
Edna entered this life on Dec. 2, 1940, in Paragould, Ark., born to the union of the late James A. and Anne Blanche (Mull) Henson. She was raised in Paragould, and at the age of 16, she moved to the St. Louis, Mo. area. In 1967, she moved her family to Seneca, Mo., where she began her 30-year career with Eagle Picher. After retiring she worked for Sams in Joplin, for six years. She enjoyed dancing, spending time with her friends and listening to music. Edna has resided in Joplin, since 1982.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three siblings, Ed, Faye and James.
Edna is survived by her two children, Jean Thurman, of Joplin, and Eric Thurman and wife, Bonnie, of Seneca; six grandchildren, Matthew Mellen, Brent Thurman, Damon Mellen, Kyle Thurman, Jaime Mellen and Chase Thurman; a sister, Mary Newell, of O'Fallon, Mo.; two brothers, Anthony Henson, of Desoto, Mo., and Larry Henson, of Paragould; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday morning, Jan. 26, from 10 a.m. until 12 noon in the Chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin.
