JOPLIN, Mo. —
Mrs. Ruth C. Pelot, 93, of Joplin, Mo., departed this life on Thursday morning, Feb. 14, 2013, at St. Luke's Care Center in Carthage, Mo., after months of declining health.
Ruth entered this life on April 14, 1919, in Hico, Texas, one of four children born to the late Carl Critz and Oda Odella (Jones) Carlton. She was raised in Hamilton, Texas, and was a graduate of Hamilton High School. She furthered her education by attending Turlton College in Stephenville, Texas.
On June 9, 1940, in Hamilton, she was united in marriage to William L. Pelot and to this union one daughter was born. Throughout her life she was a hardworking and devoted homemaker. She enjoyed playing bridge, working in her yard and tending to the needs of her flowerbeds.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 64 years, William L. Pelot on Aug. 24, 2004; and three brothers, Carl, Harry and Jimmie Carlton.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Patsy Chew and husband, Jerry, of Joplin; two grandchildren, Shawn Chew, of Joplin, and Steven Chew and wife, April, also of Joplin; three great-grandchildren, Logan, Autumn and Abbie Reynolds; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Graveside services for Mrs. Pelot are at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin, with Rev. Larry Six officiating. No formal visitation will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are being directed to Avalon Hospice and contributions may be left at the mortuary.
