JOPLIN, Mo. —

James Windel Spencer, age 66, of Joplin, passed away at 3:24 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at Mercy Hospital after a sudden illness.

Born Jan. 20, 1947, in Joplin, he was the son of the late Luther Ray Spencer and Lillie Belle Oliver Spencer. He had lived in Joplin most of his lifetime. He had also lived in Illinois, Florida and Tennessee. He attended Lincoln School in Joplin. He retired from Joplin Sheltered Workshop, having worked in the Commercial Laundry and at Tamko for over 20 years. He was a lifetime member of the Eagles Lodge, where he loved to play pool.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Spencer, Roseann Ward and Lila Morgan; and a brother, Ray Spencer Jr.

Survivors include a sister, Betty Haver, of Joplin; a brother, David Spencer, of Joplin; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Four State Cremation. Private memorial services will be held at a later date.
