JOPLIN, Mo. —
Mr. Robert J. Gripka, age 86, of Joplin, passed away Monday, May 7, 2012.
He was born of Aug. 29, 1925, in Wentworth, Mo., to August F.Gripka and Stella M. Gollhoffer Gripka. Mr. Gripka was a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church at the Sarcoxie prairie and he was a machinist for Vickers for 35 years; a member of the Webb City American Legion.
Mr. Gripka served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Garrard APA-84.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian (Evans) Gripka, who he married on June 28, 1947; a daughter, Dixie Fasken and husband, Robert, of Carthage; a son, Arnold Gripka and wife, Rhonda, of Joplin; sisters, Bernice Lonczak, of Chicopee, Mass., Velda Sloniker, of Carthage, and Beverly Hunt, of Joplin; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. The Simpson Funeral Home of Webb City. A rosary will be held on Wednesday at 6 p.m. followed by a visitation until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to ones favorite charity
Burial will be in the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors.
Arrangements under the direction of the Simpson Funeral Home, of Webb City.
