BAXTER SPRINGS, KS — Thelma Lou Miller, age 94, of Baxter Springs, Kan., went to be with her Lord on June 2, 2011. Thelma Lou was born on Oct. 1, 1916, east of Baxter Springs to Fred and Rosie (Smith) Weiss. Thelma Lou was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Baxter Springs. She married Alva R. Miller Feb. 14, 1954, and began her life on the farm with the love of her life. Before her marriage to Alva, she was very involved in her church, teaching Sunday School, leader of worship and singing and playing her banjo in regular services as well as in revivals. In later life, she enjoyed taking tours with seniors, swimming at the YMCA, involving herself with her grandchildren and countless youth, by always encouraging them. She was a lover of poems and loved to recite her favorites. More than anything, she loved her Lord. All knew her to pray and encourage others and she was always found thanking God for everything, even the smallest things. Everyone will remember her big smile as she would say with gusto, ³I Love Life²! Thelma Lou is survived by her daughters, Mamie Houser and husband, Ralph, of Baxter Springs, and Mary Lou Tabers and husband, Jim, of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Alisha Houser, Brett Houser, Greg Tabers and wife, Tanya and Todd Tabers; and three great-grandchildren, Karisa, Kasandra and Kaelyn Tabers. She is preceded in death by her husband, Alva and her parents, George Fred Weiss and Rosetta June Weiss; brothers, Roy and Leonard Weiss; and sisters, Mary Rosel and Ruby Richey. Funeral service for Mrs. Thelma Lou Miller will be at 1 p.m. June 4, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Baxter Springs, with Rev. C.L. Armstrong, Rev. David Bindel and Dr. Bud Garber officiating. Graveside service will follow in the Baxter Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 3, at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs. Ted B. Evans Sr.
Ted made his last road trip from Carthage on March 7, 2014 to a heavenly home, where he will meet many friends and family. He will be there waiting for us all. Ted was born on September 15, 1934 in Joplin, Missouri. Ted was the son of Ramon A. Evans and Dorothy Elizabeth (Beatty) Evans. Ted attended grade school in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, moving to Carthage with his parents in May 1947. He attended 8th grade at Hawthorne School and graduated from Carthage High School in 1952. Ted was the director of the CHS Band and Pep Band. He graduated in 1956 from Westminster College, Fulton, Mo, with a Liberal Art Degree, where Ted formed and directed the band. He also received a music scholarship to Tulsa University. Ted joined the Sigma Chi Fraternity and attended Sigma Chi leadership school in 1954 at Hanover College, Indiana.
