MIDLAND, Texas —
George Huffman Landreth was born to Pearl Huffman Landreth and Harry Herman Landreth in Joplin, Mo., on April 28, 1927.
He went to be with the Lord on Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at 6:45 p.m. in Midland, Texas.
He was a faithful participant with the men's Community Bible Study for many years at First Presbyterian Church. He entered military service in April 1945, where he served briefly overseas in the United States Navy during World War II. He was honorably discharged in June 1946. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Oklahoma in August 1949.
His memberships included the Rotary Club International, Ducks Unlimited, The Weatherby Award Foundation and Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He also was a member of Shikar Safari Club International, the world's number one Big Game Hunting and Conservation Club. Hunting was one of his favorite pastimes.
Survivors include his wife, Christiane; three daughters, Susan and her husband, Dr. Robert Fry, of Aurora, Colo., Sandy and her husband, Jim Kane, of Edmond, Okla., and Sherry Landreth, of Edmond; son, George Huffman Landreth II and his wife, Barbra, of Norman, Okla.; his three grandchildren, Lauren Landreth and Jordan Landreth, both of Atlanta, Ga., and Leah Landreth, of Norman; a sister, Mary Jane Landreth, of Joplin; a brother, Harry Herman Landreth, Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Danville, Ky.; and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edward Harvey Landreth; his first wife, Alice Landreth; and a daughter, Sarah Landreth Grafa.
In lieu of flowers, the family request a donation be made to the Community Bible Study Outreach program, 790 Stout Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80921. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at First Presbyterian Church in Midland, with Dr. Steve Schorr and Jack Rathbone, officiating.
