Joseph A. Mettlach

SARCOXIE, Mo. — Joseph Anthony Mettlach, 63 years, of Sarcoxie, Mo., passed away on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at Freeman West in Joplin, Mo.

Joseph was born on Feb. 9, 1951, in Monett, Mo., to the union of Raymond and Rose (Stipp) Mettlach. He completed the eighth grade at St. Mary's in Pierce City, Mo., and was a graduate of Pierce City High School. Joe joined the National Guard and served several years with the 203rd division.

On April 19, 1989, he was united in marriage to Christine Lindsay in Miami, Okla., and to this union they were blessed with three sons. He was employed for 36 years for Dairy Farmers of America in Monett, as a supervisor, retiring in October of 2013. Joe was a "Dad" who was truly involved and spent quality time with his sons. He spent 20 years coaching and being supportive of every sport the boys were involved in, baseball, basketball and football. He also enjoyed playing golf. Joe's first love was being a husband and a wonderful dad. His passion was his "sons". He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, in Pierce City.

Joseph is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Don Mettlach; and one sister, Betty Houston.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Christine; three sons, Christopher Mettlach, of Pierce City, Joshua Mettlach, of Springfield, Mo., and Tucker Mettlach, of the home; two brothers, Richard Mettlach, of Monett, and Raymond Mettlach, of Pierce City; one sister, Linda Stellwagen and husband, Dennis, of Pierce City; father and mother in-law, Cecil and Barbara Welch, of Joplin; brother-in-law, Brian Lindsay and wife, Amy, of Monett; and sister-in-law, Stephanie Mettlach, of Sarcoxie; one nephew, Justin Mettlach, of Boston, Mass.; one niece, Carrie Winders, of Springfield, Mo.; as well as a host of other family and countless friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Mettlach are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pierce City, with Father Peter Morciniec officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Pierce City. Rosary will be Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 6 p.m. with visitation to follow at Housh Goodwin Funeral Home in Sarcoxie. Those honoring his life as pallbearers will be Justin Mettlach, Kent Williams, Brian Lindsay, Bill Chandler and Mike Copley and Bob Royce.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions be made to the Leukemia Foundation and they may be left at the funeral home.
