JOPLIN, Mo. —
Wilda L. Russell, age 74, of Joplin, Mo, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Freeman Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Wilda was born on Aug. 3, 1937, in Joplin, the daughter of the late William A. and Velma (Drake) Lawson. She has been a lifetime area resident.
She served as the president of the Credit Bureau of Joplin for 39 years, retiring in December of 2001. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, where she was active in the Women’s Missionary Union, teaching Sunday school classes, and church financial committees. She was also a member of the American Business Women’s Association, Pilot Club, and The Credit Women of Joplin, serving as president of all three. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She married Donald Russell in February of 1958. He preceded her in death in 1988. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Lawson.
She is survived by one son, Bryan Russell , Columbus, Ohio; one daughter, Shari Russell, Joplin; two sisters, Jean Beaver, Athens, Ga., and Marilyn Mckinney, Diamond, Mo.; three grandchildren, Angie Schuber and husband, Daman, Adam Russell and wife, Angie, and Kayla Russell; and six great-grandchildren, Isabella, Asa, Addis, and Mia Schuber, and Ashton and Austin Russell.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fellowship Baptist Church. Burial will be in Osborne Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory, Joplin.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Fellowship Baptist Church Building Fund in care of the mortuary.
