BAXTER SPRINGS, KS — Billy Joe Martin, age 80, of Baxter Springs, passed from this life Sunday, April 29, 2012, at Emerald Pointe Health and Rehabilitation Center in Galena, Kan.

Billy was born June 27, 1931, in Galena,  tot the union of Gilbert and Lillie (Woods) Martin. He served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954.
He was then united in marriage to Doris Colleen (Dardenne) Martin on December 26, 1957, in Miami, Okla.
Billy was an auto mechanic and owned his own Shell Station in Torrance, Calif., before moving to Baxter Springs, where he has spent the last 30 years. Billy enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends.
Billy is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Martin; and one sister, Dixie Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Martin, of the home; one son, Bill Robinson and wife, Cyndi, of Nevada, Mo.; one daughter, Kimberly Jo Lane and husband, Derrick, of Baxter Springs; one brother, Jerry Wayne Martin, of Galena; one half-brother Earl Crum, of Reno, Nev., and one stepbrother, Sonny Martin, of Oregon; one half-sister, Earlene Absher, of Sparks, Neb.;  two step-sisters, Donna Morgan, of Lakeport, Calif., and Ladene Hart, of Tennessee; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 3,  at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel. Pastor Eddie McAfee will officiate. Dinner will be provided following the services at 7221 SE 63rd Street, Riverton, Kan.
