JOPLIN, Mo. —
Gary L. Prier, age 80, Joplin, Mo., passed away Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, following an illness.
He was born April 9, 1933, in Granby, Mo., to Floyd and Esther (Hobson) Prier.
Gary has been an area resident for over 30 years. He retired from the United States Air Force in May 1975, after serving in Germany, England, Turkey, and North America. He worked in emergency medicine and local medical clinics after serving as a medic in the Air Force. He attended St. Peters Catholic Church and was a member of Joplin Elks No. 501, The Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 2410 and the American Legion.
He is survived by two sons, Gregory Prier, Honolulu, Hawaii, and Maxwell Prier, Anchorage, Alaska; two daughters, Cynthia Prier, Goose Creek, S.C., and Deborah Ashworth, Lacombe, La.; two sisters, Sandra Dean, Joplin, and Helen Chester, Joplin; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Prier. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Prier and Esther (Prier) Haley; and four brothers, Dennis, Norman, Larry and Nelson.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary Chapel with Fr. Justin Monaghan officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to the Seneca House in care of the mortuary.
