Colene L. Maupin

JOPLIN, Mo. — Colene Louise Anderson Maupin, age 89, of Joplin, passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, July 12, 2013, at Quaker Hill Skilled Nursing in Baxter Springs, Kan., after suffering from Alzheimers Disease.

Born Sept. 2, 1923, in Linn Creek, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Claude and Nell Lewis Anderson and had lived in Joplin since 1955. Colene was raised in Fredericktown, Mo. and graduated from High School at Washington, Mo. She attended the University of Missouri at Columbia, transferring to Washington University, where she received her degree as a Registered Nurse. She was a private duty nurse and then did industrial nursing for Vickers Inc. and Eagle-Picher Industries, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the 5th District Nurses Association. An avid gardener, she had a particular talent with plants.

On Sept. 9, 1944, she married James K. Maupin at St. Louis, Mo. He preceded her in death on Jan. 22, 2006.

Survivors include a son, James L. Maupin and wife, Sandra, of Las Vegas, Nev.; two daughters, Jane L. Baine, Nancy Wilder and husband, Ken, all of Joplin; nine granddaughters, Carmen, Gretchan, Alicia, Janay, Claire, Colene, Dustine, Dana and Darrin; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial visitation will be Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Interment will be with her husband in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimers Association in care of Parker Mortuary.

The family expresses their thanks to the associates and residents of the Arbors of Silvercreek in Joplin and Quaker Hill Skilled Nursing Unit of Baxter Springs for their care and concern during Colenes brief stay.
