Fannie L. Gass

SARCOXIE, Mo. — Mrs. Fannie L. Gass, 84, of Sarcoxie, Mo., formerly of Joplin, Mo., departed this life on Sunday evening, July 14, 2013, at her residence after years of declining health.

Fannie entered this life on Dec. 20, 1928, in Sarcoxie, Mo., to the late Oscar and Virginia (Lambeth) Humbard. She moved with her family to Joplin, as a child.

On Dec. 1, 1945, in Columbus, Kan., she was united in marriage to Aubrey E. Gene Gass and together they shared 55 years before his passing on Sept. 15, 2001. Being the wife of a career serviceman, she and the family made their home in various parts of the United States including, France and Germany.

In 1966, she returned home to Joplin.  She enjoyed fishing, playing bingo and the drums and spending time with Gene in their woodworking shop.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene Gass; two sons, Mike and Mark Gass; a daughter-in-law, Nancie Gass; and eight siblings.

Fannie is survived by her five daughters, Linda Bailey, of Sarcoxie, Kathy Gehrke and husband, Ollie, of Joplin, Debi Maggard and fiancé, Roger Weist, also of Sarcoxie, Donna Patton and husband, Preston, of Carl Junction and Sharol Rich, of Kansas City, Kan.; two daughter-in-laws, Trish Gass, of Springfield and Karen Gass, of Jerome, Idaho; 26 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Gass are 2 p.m. Thursday, July 18, in the Chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, Mo., with Chaplain Jeff Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Osborne Memorial Cemetery in Joplin. The family will receive friends on Thursday at 1 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. Following the service, the family will be at the home of Debbi Maggard in Sarcoxie.
