LEES SUMMIT, MO — Katie Dorothy Mitchell, age 92, Lees Summit, Mo., formerly of Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010, at John Knox Village Care Center in Lees Summit. Dorothy was born Dec. 9, 1918, in Joplin, daughter of the late Charlie Albert Thomas and Cora Perkins Thomas. She served in the Women's Army Corp during World War II, was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 13, and was a charter member of The Women's Memorial. She was a homemaker, and a member of First Baptist Church of Joplin. She moved to Lees Summit in 2005 to be near her family. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Glen Mitchell who died Dec. 14, 1978; and a son, Thomas Glen Mitchell, who died in 1967. Survivors include a son, David Mitchell and wife Zona, of Lees Summit; a daughter, Glenda Cooper and husband Dama, of Bates City, Mo.; grandchildren, Sara Taylor and husband Rody, Megan Mitchell, Dana Cooper, Dawn Poole, and Deana Bozeman; great-grandchildren, Mitchell Taylor, Sharisha Cooper, Angel Cozart, Leresa Cozart, D.J. Cooper, and Mickie Cooper. Graveside services will be Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at 2 p.m. in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Bob Simon officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 13.
