Charles J. (Bob) Robertson

JOPLIN, MO —   

Charles J. (Bob) Robertson, age 82, of Joplin, passed away at 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at Freeman West Hospital.

Born Oct. 30, 1930, in Hattiesburg, Miss., he was the son of the late Charles J. and Nina Sledge Robertson. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1947 to 1950, holding the rank of Sergeant. He received an A.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering through the U.S. Armed Forces Institute.

In 1986, Charles retired as Vice President of King Press Products in Joplin. He served as chief engineer in the development of machinery and automation systems in the production of printing presses. He was an experienced machinist, tool and die maker, tool engineer and mechanical engineer.

Charles was a member of Joplin Elk's Lodge No. 501, Joplin Junior Achievement and served on the boards of Oak Hill and Freeman Hospital, Seneca R-7 School District and Redings Mill Fire District.

In 1951, he acquired his private pilot license and enjoyed all aspects of aviation.

On March 29, 1950, he married Margarette M. Rogers in Fort Smith, Ark. She survives.

Additional survivors include three sons, Charles J. Robertson Jr. and wife, Jackie, Roger Robertson and wife, Gloria, all of Joplin, and Ron Robertson and wife, Vicki, of Kansas City; one daughter, Susan (Robertson) Boyer and husband, Waymeth, of Seneca, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, Candace (Boyer) Platner and husband, Eric, Waylon Boyer and wife, Karisa, Rusty Robertson and wife, Shelly, Keith Robertson, Holly Robertson, Michelle Robertson, Ashley Robertson, Cameron Robertson, Kelsey Robertson and Brandon Robertson; six great-grandchildren; eight sisters; and five brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Parker Chapel with Rev. Rick Patterson officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Osborne Memorial Cemetery. Family serving as pallbearers will be Waylon Boyer, Rusty Robertson, Keith Robertson, Cameron Robertson, Brandon Robertson and Eric Platner. His brother, Ben Robertson and son-in-law, Waymeth Boyer, will be honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Parker Mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Christmas Basket Fund of Joplin Elk's Lodge.
