JOPLIN, MO —

Laura Mae "Grandma/ Nana" Brown, age 87, Joplin, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at home surrounded by family.

Laura was born Jan. 13, 1925, in Joplin, daughter of the late Loranzo William "Harvey" Fowler and Almeda Lewis Fowler. She graduated from Lincoln School and worked at the Connor Hotel, at Newman's Department Store and DeTar Clinic, prior to her marriage to Duncan Brown. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother after her marriage to Duncan and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Most recently she attended College Heights Christian Church. She was also a former member of the N.A.A.C.P.

In addition to her parents, Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Duncan, who died May 31, 1977; five brothers; and three sisters.

Survivors include her daughter, Denice L. Brown; her granddaughter, Amber N. Brown, both of Joplin; siblings, Alfred Fowler and wife, Rozella, of Victorville, Calif., Mary Louise Logan and husband, Julius, of Chula Vista, Calif., and Sol Edmund Fowler, of Joplin; a sister-in-law, Mattie L. Minor, of San Antonio, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 10 a.m. at College Heights Christian Church with Jay St.Clair, Rev. Rick Bushness, Danny Mullins and Bob Simon officiating. Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with family serving as pallbearers.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
