JOPLIN, Mo. —
Marlene Patricia Dix, age 75, Joplin, passed away at 7:27 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at Mercy Hospital after an illness.
Marlene was born July 2, 1937, in Chicago, Ill. to the late Anthony Palka and Harriette Gonciarz Palka and had lived in the Joplin area the past 16 years.
Marlene received her degree in nursing in 1981. She worked for 15 years in the medical field as an R.N. for various nursing facilities before she retired. She was a member of the American Lupus Association, the Texas National Nursing Association and was a longtime and faithful member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Joplin.
She married Donald Raymond Dix on June 24, 1967, in Niles, Ill. He survives at the home.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth Dix, Grand Prairie, Texas; step daughters, Lori Janik, Sugar Grove, Ill., Corin Armour, Mansfield, Texas, Gwendy McColl, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Marcy Dunlop, Geneva, Ill.; step sons, Donn F. Dix, Chico, Calif., David Dix, Raleigh, N.C.; one sister, Loretta Maroney, Upland, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great- grandchildren.
In addition to her parents; Marlene was preceded in death by a step daughter, Cheri Nystrom.
Memorial services are planned for Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Rex Wakefield will officiate. The family will receive friends at the mortuary following the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church W.M.U./Missions, in care of the mortuary.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
