James Wilson Cook

JOPLIN, Mo. — James Wilson Cook, 71, Joplin, died Jan. 15, 2014, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, following six months of failing health.

Jim was born June 19, 1942, in Granby, and lived in Neosho until 1978, when he moved to Dallas, Texas. While in Dallas, he was a general contractor and was recognized for being the largest multi-family builder in Texas and after 30 years in the business, returned to Neosho in 2008. He was a member of the National Home Builder's Association, loved to fly his airplane and ride his tractors.

Jim and Margie Ann (Brown) were married on March 7, 1958, at Miami, Okla., and together they had two sons, J. Lex and John L.

He is survived by his wife, Margie, of the home and also by a son, John Cook and wife, Teresa, Frisco, Texas; three grandsons, Lex Cook, Hunter Cook and Christian Cook; his mother, Marjorie Montgomery Nordling and husband, Chet, Bentonville, Ark.; a brother, Tom Montgomery and wife, Tracy, Rogers, Ark.; and a sister, Barbara (Cookie) Hylton and husband, Lonnie, Springfield, Mo. Jim is preceded in death by a son, Lex Cook on Dec. 29, 1983; and grandson, Nathan Daugherty.

Services will be Saturday, Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Rev. Jack Sanders will officiate. Interment will be in the Neosho IOOF Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
