Larry W. Goode

JOPLIN, Mo. — Larry Wayne Goode, of Joplin, Mo., went to be with the Lord on Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at Freeman Hospital. Larry passed away of natural causes with his family by his side.

He was born April 8, 1942, in Carthage, Mo. He attended Webb City High School and graduated from Pittsburg State University with a Masters degree in Business Administration. He taught at Webb City High School prior to joining the staff at Missouri Southern State University. He taught for the next 35 years in the School of Business Administration. Larry's passion was teaching. He once said, "If I had my way, every morning of my life Id be in the class at eight o'clock waiting for the kids because thats the only thing I really liked to do". He received the Outstanding Teacher Award in 1986 and the Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1998.

Larry enjoyed backpacking, running, hunting, and golfing; however, he was truly devoted to and loved his opportunity to teach.

He is survived by his wife, Angie; his five children, Kari Willis and husband, Mark, of Republic, Mo., Amy Walker, of Republic, Mo. Daron Goode and wife, Lisa, of Monett, Mo.' stepson, Chris Stephens and wife, Connie, of Joplin, Mo.; stepdaughter, Rachel Berry and husband, Jason, of Joplin, Mo.; and his 15 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Myrna Dolence and husband, Glenn, of Webb City, Mo.; and a brother, Dennis Goode and wife, Monna, of Carl Junction, Mo.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at College Heights Christian Church with Rick Bushnell, minister officiating. The family will receive friends 6  to 7 p.m. Monday at the Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home, Webb City, Mo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the MSSU Foundation in care of the Larry Goode Scholarship.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home, Webb City, Mo.
