GALENA, Kan. —
Paul J. Rowan, age 82, passed away at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at Mercy Hospital Joplin, Mo., following an illness.
Paul was born Aug. 8, 1931, in Princeton, Mo. His parents were Charlie Edward and Pearlie Belle (Pauley) Rowan. He had lived in Galena most of his life.
He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Navy. He retired in 2009 after working 53 years at Eagle Picher, Joplin. He was a member of the Lowell Friends Church, Lowell, Kan., and the Galena Masonic Lodge. His special interests centered on his friends, his family and his God.
Paul was married to Virginia Messer on June 8, 1953, in San Diego, Calif. She passed away Sept. 13, 1999.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Rowan and Dale Rowan.
Surviving is one son, Paul W. Rowan (wife, Kim) St. James, Mo.; one daughter, Marsha Stark (husband, Randy), Carl Junction, Mo.; six grandchildren, Chris Rowan, Matt Rowan, Josh Treadway, Loura Canady, Heather Walker and Keith Jones; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and one sister, Joan Watts, Joplin.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at Riverton Friends Church, Riverton, Kan. Pastor Jeff Adams will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery Galena. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena.
