Lois M. Bellm

AIKEN, S.C. — Mrs. Lois Mae Bellm, 91, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at Aiken Regional Medical Center in Aiken, S.C.

Lois Bellm was born in Joplin, Mo., but had lived most of her life in Pittsburg until recently when she moved to Aiken to be near her daughter and family. She was a graduate of PHS class of 1940 and Kansas State Teachers College, now Pittsburg State University with a music degree. She did some teaching, but her love was working for 58 years in the Joplin Ernie Williamson Music House, which she later owned and operated. Lois was a member of the First United Methodist Church, of Pittsburg, where she was also for a time the children's choir director. She was a past president of the Treble Clef Club, a member of the Sigma Alpha Iota music fraternity, and the PEO Chapter IO. She was involved in many community organizations. Lois loved her family greatly and instilled that love and her love of music to those she met.

She is survived by her very special friend, Dr. Henri Freyburgerof Aiken, formerly of Colmar, France and Pittsburg; her daughter, Joanne Stanford (Clarke), of Aiken, both formerly, of Pittsburg; her sister, Ruth Ann Barr (Ron), of Pittsburg; her granddaughters, Alison Mueller (Todd), of Bishop, Ga. and Andrea Selman (Steven), of Blacklick, Ohio; her great-grandchildren, Gracelyn Mae and Elton Henri Mueller and  Steven Charles Selman, Jr.; a brother-in-law, Orval Bellm, of Perryville, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grace and Ernie Williamson; and her husband, Alvin L. Bellm.

A private family burial will be held on Friday, Feb. 28, at the Mount Olive Cemetery with Reverend Jim Akins officiating. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be scheduled later for this summer in Pittsburg.

The family suggests memorials to the Ernie Williamson Music Scholarship at PSU. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS  66762.
