The Joplin Globe
MUSKOGEE, OK —
Ronald Wayne Dean Sr. was born to John and Jerine Dean on Oct. 21, 1938, in Los Angeles, Calif. Ron and his brother, Ralph, were raised by hardworking and loving parents. Raised in church and active in school, Ron developed a love for God and a heart for ministry. When Ron was age 15, the family welcomed Ron’s baby brother, Dan.
After graduation from Bell Gardens High School in 1956, Ron traveled to Joplin, Mo., and won the heart of Madalyn Sue Smith. The couple married in July of 1957, and shared 54 years together. The couple moved to Los Angeles, where Ron attended Life Bible College and served as choir director in his grandparent’s church. In 1959, Ron and Sue were blessed with the birth of Ron Jr. followed by the birth of Dennis in 1960. Ron Sr. and Sue served as pastors at churches in Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arizona, Nevada and California, before settling in Joplin, and retiring from Community Chapel in 2005. During his time in ministry, Ron built two churches from the ground up, but ministry for Ron went beyond the walls of the church and into the community. Ron was involved with the Kiwanis Club, Rescue Missions and Habitat for Humanity and served as Police Chaplain in Joplin, and Coffeyville, Kan. In 2006, Ron and Sue moved to Muskogee, Okla., to be near their son and grandchildren.
Ronald Dean Sr. joined his father, mother and son, Dennis in heaven on April 10, 2012.
Ron is survived by his loving wife, Sue Dean, of Muskogee; his son, Ron Dean Jr. and wife, Rainey, of Muskogee; a brother, Ralph Dean and wife, Shelva, of Fountain Valley, Calif.; a brother, Dan Dean and wife, Dee, of Bishop, Calif.; one aunt, Reverend Edith Heard, of Milwaukee, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews; and a special adopted daughter, Melody Nivens, of Joplin.
