Judith A. Brown

AUSTIN, Texas — Judith Ann "Judy" Brown, 73, of Austin, Texas, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mrs. Brown was born March 15, 1940, in Joplin, Mo., and was the daughter of Mabel and Jack Aldridge. She was one of 11 children.

She began taking dance classes when she was 8 years old and continued dancing throughout her life. Mrs. Brown graduated from Joplin High School and later married Joe Pendergraft, who was also from Joplin, Mo.

Judith and Joe had four children, Piper (Paul), of Westport, Conn., Joseph "Joe", of Austin, Texas, Tisha (Brown), of Austin, Texas, and Eric, of Atlanta, Ga. She has seven grandchildren who adore her. Judy also is survived and loved by the five children and 10 grandchildren of the blended Brown family.

Mrs. Brown owned a dance school in Carthage, Mo., for many years and shared her love of dance with the community. She was a very talented dancer, teacher, choreographer, costume designer and set designer. In addition to owning the dance school, she also owned a clothing store called Lifestyles for many years.  She taught at several colleges and was very involved in the community.  Among her other accomplishments, Judy was also a Flight Attendant for American Airlines.

She later divorced Joe Pendergraft and married James "Roland" Brown of Austin, Texas. They enjoyed many wonderful times with friends, traveling, and enjoying Austin. Roland was the light of her life. She was a well-loved full participant in support of Roland's activities, including planning and helping to conduct reunions and social affairs. She was also Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Golden Eagles, the association of Continental Airlines retired pilots.

A celebration of Judy's life will begin with visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Harrell Funeral Home, located at 4435 Frontier Trail (South Lamar and Ben White), in Austin, Texas. The celebration funeral service will be Thursday, June 20, 2013, at 10 a.m. in the chapel at Harrell Funeral Home and will be officiated by Rev. Sam Willcut of Southwest Church of Christ.

Mrs. Brown was a very strong, courageous, intelligent, determined, and funny person who inspired many people to reach for the stars and to believe in themselves.  If you would like to make a memorial donation in her honor, please donate to the Shriners Hospitals for Children-Houston, Texas division.
