George R. Hosp

CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — George Robert Hosp, age 61, of Carl Junction, Mo., passed away Monday evening, June 17, 2013, with his wife and three children by his side.

Born Oct. 30, 1951, in Joplin, he was the son of the late George Russell Hosp and Betty Lou Pryor Hosp and lived in Joplin most of his lifetime.

George received his Bachelor of Arts in History in 1975 and his Master of Business Administration from the University of Colorado in 1987. He began his career with Tamko Building Products in 1976. During his tenure with Tamko he held several positions including Six Sigma Master Black Belt, ERP Lead Analyst, Corporate Director of Customer Service, Corporate Sales Administrator, Chief of Staff for Sales Administration and warehouse manager in both Omaha, Neb. and Denver, Colo.

He was an active member of Carl Junction United Methodist Church, where he served as choir director and in many other capacities. George volunteered as a Cub Scout leader for six years, served on the Regional and State Boards for Destination Imagination (a team problem solving program for students) for 15 years and coached Carl Junction Youth Athletics teams in soccer, softball and basketball for over 10 years.

He married his best friend, and the love of his life, Jill Leib, on Dec. 27, 1977, in Joplin. She survives along with their three children, son, Russell Hosp and wife, Michelle, of Cairns, Queensland, Australia; two daughters, Sarah Hosp and Jennifer Hosp, both of Carl Junction.

Additional survivors include a brother, Bill Hosp and wife, Melinda, of Carl Junction; a sister, Pam Hosp and husband, Rick Stauffer, of Joplin; two step grandchildren, Ellie and Conor; many nieces, nephews as well as countless friends.

The family will receive friends Thursday, June 20, 2013, at Carl Junction United Methodist Church from  6 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2013, at Carl Junction United Methodist Church with the Reverends Jim Cooper and Bob Simon officiating. The body will be cremated. Interment will be in Ozark Memorial Park at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, in honor of his courageous battle with cancer, or Carl Junction United Methodist Church.
