CARTHAGE, Mo. —
Alice Loree Hiatt, 100, Carthage, Mo., passed away Monday, May 7, 2012, at Maple Tree Terrace in Carthage.
She was born March 4, 1912 in Riverton, Kan., one of 10 children, to the late Arthur Stevenson and Fannie Mae (Mitchell) Carnahan.
Alice grew up at Riverton and later attended college where she received her teachers certification.
She married Herbert R. Hiatt on Sept. 25, 1938, at Riverton. They moved to Carthage in 1947. In a few years, Herbert started Hiatt Welding Co., and they were involved in that business for many years. Herbert preceded her in death in 1996.
Alice was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church in Carthage. She enjoyed being outdoors, especially when fishing or water skiing. She was in her seventies the last time she water skied. She also enjoyed ceramic painting and had a great talent for detailing miniature designs.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by five siblings.
She is survived by her son, Sid Hiatt, Joplin, Mo.; two granddaughters, Lisa Paugh (Judd) and Amy Thomas, all of Joplin; three great-grandchildren; and by four siblings.
Alice and Herbert were totally devoted to each other, and their love for each other was evident to everyone. She deeply loved her son, and adored her granddaughters. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 10, from 1 to 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Carthage. Funeral services will follow immediately at 2 p.m. with Rev. Matthew Roberts officiating. Interment will be in Park Cemetery under direction and personal care of Knell Mortuary, Carthage.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in care of Knell Mortuary, 308 West Chestnut, Carthage, MO 64836, in lieu of flowers.
